3D Models
A 3D model of a site is constructed in a similar manner to the 2D, or Orthomosaic, model. A drone is flown over the site in multiple passes to collect overlapping images of the site. Specialized software is used to combine those images into a “point cloud”, which may be viewed with 3D software. To create a decent 3D model, many overlapping images need to be collected – usually more than for a 2D model.
Click the “Play” button on the image. Once the model loads, use your mouse to spin the model around (left button) or move (right button) or zoom in and out (scroll wheel). Press “F” or the double-headed arrow to view the model full screen. Press “F” again, or the Escape key, to exit full screen.
Please note that Skyhook Photography does not provide survey grade information. 2D and 3D models are just that: models. For projects where exact measurements count, you still need to rely on a licensed land surveyor or survey engineer. This is not exclusive to our business, all drone data collection services cannot interpret data unless they have a surveyor on staff. Additionally, we do not show property boundaries on home lots (developed or undeveloped) for the same reasons.
