Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
The FAA requires any drone pilot doing commercial work (i.e., being hired to do a job) to have his/her Part 107 Remote Pilot’s Certificate. Failure to do so can result in hefty fines. Fines for the company hiring the unlicensed drone operator are $11,000 per incident.
There are restrictions placed on the drone pilot by the FAA. If the operation is near an airport, the drone pilot will need to get advanced permission to fly in that area. Also, there are weather-related restrictions. For instance, you may not fly a drone during periods of low visibility (e.g., fog). There are additional situations where the FAA may restrict drone operations. Your pilot will know this information. In addition, the drone pilot will not want to fly in conditions that put his equipment at risk, for example, high winds or rain).
